GUINEA-BISSAU: RELAUNCH CEREMONY OF THE JOSE CARLOS SCHWARZ NATIONAL SCHOOL OF MUSIC AND NINO GALISSA CONCERT

The Portuguese Cultural Center, Camões (CCP) hosted in Bissau, on December 15th 2022, the relaunch ceremony of the José Carlos Schwarz National School of Music and, in its open-air space, a Kora concert performed by musician Nino Galissa

The ceremony to relaunch the José Carlos Schwarz National School of Music was attended by the Portuguese Ambassador of Guinea-Bissau, José Caroço, the Guinea-Bissau Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Augusto Gomes, the Guinea-Bissau Secretary of State for Culture, Francelino da Cunha, as well as a representative of the Bonfim Conservatory (Braga) and music teacher Rebeca Sousa.

In the outdoor space, musician Nino Galissa gave a Kora concert in front of a full audience. The concert also aimed to present the project to create the “Nino Galissa Music School”, where the aim is to spread the teaching of Kora, as a traditional Bissau-Guinean instrument.

Both initiatives were supported by the CCP in Bissau.
