One of the greatest figures in Guinean culture
In the early 1970s, in a country fragmented into dozens of ethnic groups and in the midst of the war of independence, José Carlos Schwarz created Guinea-Bissau's first musical group, "Cobiana Djazz".
José Carlos sang in Creole and created a musical form that still unifies Guineans today.
This documentary tells the story of the poet and founder of modern music in Guinea-Bissau, who died in a plane crash in 1977, aged just 27.
